Re:68k Machines - 2007/04/29 13:54I like having an older machine because I have software that comes from the olden days... and files that I haven't moved over to my MacBook, or simply don't go since the Apple switch to the Intel base.

Re:68k Machines - 2007/04/29 13:54I've noticed that there aren't too many posts to most of these forums. I'm wondering if the old Macs are biting the dust after all these years... to be expected, I suppose. I have a friend in NoCal redwoods who still prefers System 6 on his 68k machines. Imagine that!

Re:68k Machines - 2007/04/30 07:55The leaky capacitors are older electrolytic type, These have a corsive fluid between the film layers that leak out over time causing a sulfate reaction on the copper traces of the pc board, (looks like fuzz growing on the traces of the board around these capacitors) this is conductive and will short out between these traces some times causing the computer not to function. Washing the pc board in a dishwasher will remove the fuzz and nutralize the fluid. The capacitors will eventually have to be replaced but the computer should work after it has dried.

Re:68k Machines - 2007/04/30 07:58Yes this 68k forum has never been too busy and most Apple Users have moved on to bigger better machines, I also keep older systems around to play around with as do a few other people here on these forums.

Re:68k Machines - 2007/11/13 10:08My brother gave me a Plus a few years back, which sadly i've had to shove in the loft due to the keyboard dying..If i can find another keyboard, it's coming down..
I still use my PB165 for typing, i'm working on getting it connected to the internet. At one point i was using the Plus for my emails..was pretty good fun as an emailing machine.
Nice to see other people are using these old 68k mac's, i've always personally like the SE/30....i'll have one, eventually!!
