2nd. Gen. iPod - installation CD - 2006/12/27 21:37I believe I've got everything But the Installation CD., is this really necessary to install ?, I would imagine it would be - When I first purchased this I decided to buy a book called: Secrets of the iPod ( second edition ) by Christopher Breen. As I quickly review this book in front of me, it states that if the iPod does NOT mount on the windows PC, make sure that your PC'S FireWire (IEEE1394) card is windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL) certified. My sister has a PC and what she tells me is that everything you want to know is all wrapped up in a thing called: Bios-and one doesn't touch that !, my real question now is: Will any iPod CD work, from any generation ?

Re:2nd. Gen. iPod - installation CD - 2006/12/28 13:04Just download iTunes and you should be good to go. Windows 2000 or later detects most FireWire interfaces on its own. If Windows does not immediately detect the presence of FireWire, then get an appropriate driver from your card's or system's manufacturer. Any less than Win2K, and you may be hosed.
Firmware (BIOS) updates are only necessary if (a) you're upgrading the OS, as in XP to Vista, or (b) you are experiencing firmware-related issues with your setup.

Re:2nd. Gen. iPod - installation CD - 2006/12/29 16:42Ear bud headphones should be relatively easy to find, as most any audio/electronics store will carry something of the sort.
As for the (FM?) transmitter, I don't know exactly where to get one cheaply. I do know that you have lots of options out there and different capabilities between brands. I'd check to see if Apple can locate any in its online store, and then trying the used circuits (eBay, craigslist, etc.)
