powermac g3 video problem? - 2006/12/20 18:10ya well it didnt last to long..... my pm g3 266 dt video went kaput. when i start my mac i get the bong sound cd spins hd spins monitor comes on for a sec green then goes amber and nothing happens. i removed every item removable from the mobo, ram, battery, cache card, etc. even unplugged power supply and still nothing. is it the adb monitor connection thats gone bad? i havent done anything to the system, its been turned off for about 8 days. i just tried to power on yesterday and nothing. and i dont have a mac pci video card to try with. if i was to get an older pci ati video card would i be ok that way, cause i may get one instead of changing the whole board out. any directions. thanks to all.

Re:powermac g3 video problem? - 2006/12/22 15:17Sounds like the video card to me. A secondhand one on ebay should only cost $5 , The stock one in those is an 8 meg card I think. I would get the 16 meg Rage turbo for only a couple of bucks more.Have you checked that it is not the monitor ? Borrow someone elses and try that first. Cheers , Stewie.

Re:powermac g3 video problem? - 2006/12/24 12:57Hello,
I assume you have a Beige G3 PowerMac with the onboard video. Max video ram for one of those is 6megs (two onboard plus a 4meg stick). you can install a ATI PCI 16meg video card. Which can be found on e-bay for anywhere from $5.00 up plus shipping.
If you are intrested I can sell you a ATI PCI 16meg video card for $15.00 shipped guarrented NO DOA. I have a Beige G3 mini tower that I run the same card in and there is a noticable differance in video performance plus better resolution and if you are running OS 9 the drivers are built in to the OS.
It may be that the onboard video is having issues and could quit on you anytime again. You can reply here if you are intrested in one of the ATI PCI 16meg video cards. Thanks Wally G.
