Re:Install problem for OSX 10.4 - 2006/12/12 01:49 Tiger should have come on a single DVD--if it didn't, you either exchanged it or (possibly) picked up a copy from another source than an Apple reseller. The official discs have a wide, gray X under a spotlight.

You have a combo drive, so a retail DVD should work as well as the 5 CDs

If these are copies, consider the possibility of a faulty burn.

Yet, even authentic CD sets can be faulty. If you have an official set and Disc 2 fails repeatedly, you can try to contact Apple about it, or try to take the set back to the place from whence it came.

As is usual with optical drives and discs, you'll want to check for things like dirt, debris, smudges, scuffs and scratches---these WILL trip up the install. You might also consider a cleaning disc for the drive.

Another (albeit very remote) possibility it that a hardware/firmware issue is causing the chaos, in which case check Apple's web site for a solution

Once you've checked all that out, report back. Good luck
