Re:Tiger install - 2006/09/22 23:19 Huh. Crazy stuff indeed...

The OP never said anything that would help pinpoint the exact model iBook. We know it's 12". What we don't know is the proc speed which would give away the minimum OS. Without this info, one could use a Linux CD and essentialy repartition the disk while overwriting the old OS. But unless one is familiar with Linux's many quirks, he won't get too far.

If it's hardware-related, one could in theory zap the PMU and be done. I was reading a few blurbs here about the CUDA switch in older Macs that clears EVERYTHING from NVRAM. In one particular thread, comparisons were being made between CUDA and the PMU. If valid, these comparisons seem to point to something very much like resetting the CMOS on an IBM clone box.

I'm frankly stumped, but curious at the same time. These Macs are full of surprises.

Re:Tiger install - 2006/09/24 01:18 Back to the original point...are you able to boot the Install DVD and initiate the wipe?

Regarding the mouse/trackpad issue: sounds like an NVRAM setting is in play. Try an Open Firmware reset first, or if that fails, zap the PMU entirely.

Check your mouse and/or trackpad settings. There is an option somewhere to disable the trackpad when a mouse is plugged into the PB.
