Using a used airport base station - 2006/09/03 18:06Help! I purchased a used airport station, model#8440. I cannot get the other persons name off or change the settings. I am using a iBook G3/700 with a original airport card. It recognizes the base station, but I cannot change the settings. What am I doing wrong? I tried both "AirPort Admin Utility" & "AirPort Setup Assistant" and no luck. I am sure it is something I am doing wrong, but I am stumped. Appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks!

Re:Using a used airport base station - 2006/09/03 21:00I don't know about Airport cause I've never used one, but all the other wireless routers I've used have a reset button that brings the device back to default factory settings. It's usually a "button" only in the sense that there's an opening in the case into which you have to stick a straightened out paperclip. See if there's one on the Airport.

Re:Using a used airport base station - 2006/09/20 15:30Right from apple help
Soft reset
The soft reset removes the password and the closed network settings. The base station is accessible from any of the ports while in the soft reset mode (WAN, LAN, or wireless).
To perform a soft reset:
1. Press the reset button once.
The middle LED blinks at a rate of once every second while in soft reset mode. You can connect to the soft reset base station at the IP addresses listed in the factory default settings document.
Hard reset
A hard reset removes current settings from the base station. You must then connect to the base station using the AirPort Admin Utility and upload AirPort 2.0 or later software to return the base station to its default settings. A base station in a hard reset mode is only accessible through the LAN port, not via wireless connections.
To perform a hard reset:
Unplug the power adapter. Press and hold the reset button. Plug in the power adapter. Release the reset button after at least two seconds total have elapsed (including the time required to plug in the power adapter while keeping the reset button depressed).
The middle LED blinks at a rate of once every second while in hard reset mode.
