Re:Please help the mac newbie - 2006/08/27 18:50 Does it have firewire? If so it’s a Pismo, and a easy upgrade, if not then it is a bronze which has SCSI they both came as 400 MHz, they are similar and are easy to upgrade, as far as I know the only difference is the keyboard lock to get access to the hard drive, let us know which version and we can help better, if needed I have PDF’s on both I can send you! The files are large (the Bronze is 8.3 MB, and the Pismo is 5.2 MB)

Re:Please help the mac newbie - 2006/08/28 07:07 A full retail version of Panther will work, you do not have to have a machine specific version of the OS. Also, ifixit.com has online manuals on how to do anything pretty much with Apple Laptops. I have used it several times to take apart my iBook. It is best to print out the instructions and tape the screws next to each step so you don't forget which screws go where. Just something I do. Swapping out the hard drive is pretty involved. Good Luck!!!!

Re:Please help the mac newbie - 2006/08/30 12:50 I sure do like the idea of taping the screws down by the steps. There are a lot of very small screws in there. I don't have a laptop, but have had some success at hardware stuff. Always remember to ground yourself to the frame of the computer to prevent doing any harm. -C
