My faithful Pismo - 2006/05/25 14:59 wow, a new forum section! I just wanted to stop by to say howdy and show my support. I've used this site as research before any purchase of new or used Mac equipment, usually to make sure what my upgrade options are or how compatible memory will be.

I bought a Pismo 500 on eBay back in 2001 for a great price. My prior laptop was a Powerbook 165 which I bought new as a student at the local jc. Talk about upgrade heaven. I plunked down the small fortune as an investment, and after five years of regular, reliable use, I am happy to report I got more than my money's worth. I still use my Pismo as my production workhorse on the road for web development, photoshop and some light 3D previs work. The screen's a bit yellowish, but I've upgraded the memory and new batteries a couple of years ago, along with a combo drive. I also had to replace the hinges; though I feel like I was taken advantage of by the seller, who sold the hinges individually instead of as a pair, charging me $14 shipping each. That aside, I love my Pismo. I may retire it soon for a new MacBook, but am in no hurry. I can connect to any network, wireless or not. I can play pretty much any disc handed to me - except those pesky floppies - why are people still carrying those things around?!

Sitting on a shelf, I have an original Mac portable that's missing a power supply, and my original trusty PB165 (and a 180 that I picked up dirt cheap much later, just to have *LOL*). I also still have my desktops, an original 6100 DOS and one of the very last PowerCenterPro MT180s off the assembly line, as well as a massively upgraded sawtooth (1GHz G4, 300GB HD, and USB2/Firewire800 card, and a DVD burner). I might just open my office up as a mac museum.
