Ibook cursor freezes on mains power - 2009/10/14 17:47 Can anyone offer some help please? I have an ibook g4 running OSX 10.5.8 and most of the time if I run the laptop off the mains supply the trackpad just doesn't work, plug in a usb mouse and it works fine.

If the machine is running off the battery it works fine without any problems. I've tried different power adaptors but to no avail. I've done a re-install of OSX but if it's a hardware issue why does it work perfectly on battery power? Oh I've tried different batteries as well in case there was some issues with that.

I know some early ibooks had trackpad issues but I thought they just packed up totally?

Re:Ibook cursor freezes on mains power - 2009/10/14 17:56 Try resetting the PRAM as mentioned in this link:-

Re:Ibook cursor freezes on mains power - 2009/10/15 01:53 That is really weird.... and I can't think of anything that would cause that, or any suggestions other than harry's and what you have tried already.

If harry's suggestion doesn't help I would try posting in the iBook Apple Discussion Group on Apple's site in case there is some strange anomaly with the iBook model.

If you do find a solution please post your results here.

Re:Ibook cursor freezes on mains power - 2009/10/17 09:16 I tired re-setting PRAM a few times it makes no difference. I think it's a shielding issue, for some reason when on mains power something is interfering with the trackpad cable electromagnetically, but when you pull out the power cable the cursor will happily start working again.

It's not a serious enough fault to warrant taking the machine apart to try to cure, but I've never heard of anyone else having such a problem.

Re:Ibook cursor freezes on mains power - 2009/10/20 16:04 Well I decided to have a poke around and just lifted out the keyboard then plonked it back in and now all seems fine!!!!

Could the keyboard ribbon have something to do with it?

Been working fine all night on mains power.

Weird or what?

Re:Ibook cursor freezes on mains power - 2009/10/20 20:01 That's weird no doubt... the ribbon cable may have been a little loose. Slightly loose ribbon cables can cause all sorts of weird behavior.

Glad to hear it's working anyway.
