Which one? - 2009/08/12 13:20 Hello,

I am looking to buy a secondhand powerbook or ibook but the range is quite confusing. I work in the building trafe and require a laptop to view product information/assembly instructions on cd's. Notes amd invoicing and fast internet access via wifi. Your thorghts are gratefully ccepted.

Thanks in advance.

Re:Which one? - 2009/08/12 17:21 I'd suggest neither a Powerbook nor an iBook, but rather a MacBook or MacBook Pro--something that has an Intel chip rather than a Motorola PowerPC chip. Starting with the next OS, Snow Leopard, Apple will no longer be issuing systems that run on PowerPC computers.

Re:Which one? - 2009/08/12 19:01 It depends on your budget and the applications you will be using.
For just viewing photos, pdfs and CDs plus a bit of invoicing in something like MS Word or something similar, even an old PB G3 would suffice ( with a decent hard drive and max memory of course ).
I use a Wallstreet ( originally G3/300 )with a G4/500 CPU upgrade , 512mb Ram + 30Gb HD & OS10.2 and a stock Pismo ( G3/500 ) 1Gb Ram + 60Gb HD & OS10.4.
I draw plans for a living and mostly use these like you for invoicing, viewing pdfs and a few CAD plans ( Vectorworks 11 ).
The applications I use are Acrobat reader 7 for viewing pdfs
VW 11 for my CAD plans
MS Word 2004 for my invoices and plan documents ( Statement of Environmental Effects etc )
MS Excel for associated tables and charts
iPhoto for images
I can connect to a wireless network with a PCMCIA card as well for internet access.
While not blazing fast machines , they both cope with this very well and were bought very cheaply.
