You had to get a new mother board? I don't know if this thing is worth it, those logic board are excessively expensive. I might be better parting this thing out. Still, I would like to think I can get this thing going

If you cannot get the PB to recognize the drive internally it is most likely the board. You can get boards or possibly a PB with a bad screen on eBay for less than a Mac retailer. I have a friend who does this all the time but personally I dislike working on laptops so I would part it out if you can't get it running without too much trouble.

Re:Does not see internal hard drive - 2009/03/18 10:53 Its retail. It formated the disc fine (zeroed it). When I went to install it said you cannot install to this drive. It's a usb drive, does it have to be firewire?

Re:Does not see internal hard drive - 2009/03/18 16:05 You got it ~ Firewire.

PowerPC G4's, and G5's for that matter, will generally not boot from a USB connection, even USB2 and require Firewire connection. If you have a FW external case, hook the drive up, partition the external drive using Apple Partition Map, even if one partition only is selected.

Then format Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and install Tiger.

As krowmagnum suggests check out the cable, internal drive and then logic board in that order. If you are successful getting the internal drive up and running, use SuperDuper to copy Tiger from the external to the internal.

Re:Does not see internal hard drive - 2009/03/23 23:08 If you got a guarantee on the cable check with the seller to make sure it was tested good when sold. The only way to test it is to try it in another machine or try another cable. Look it over carefully for any cracks or damage with a magnifying glass also.

More likely the problem is the motherboard. If you have an Apple Hardware Test disk you should run that if you have not done so. (with internal drive attached)

You can download the AHT images from Apple's site:
