Pismo won't turn on with new harddrive installed - 2008/03/15 17:31 Thanks for responding to my previous problem. So this is what is up now...

I got the new harddrive. It is installed but the computer won't turn on. We took it out, put the old one back in, still will not turn on. Put the new on in, still not turning on.

Any ideas??? What in the world is wrong now???

Re:Pismo won't turn on with new harddrive installe - 2008/03/16 00:20 First, check the obvious.

1. Is the RAM seated properly in the processor card? If not, disassemble the system, pull the processor card from the main logic assembly, and reseat the RAM, then reseat the processor card.

2. Reseat the processor card if needed. Insert the tabbed edges into the slots provided, lower the card into place, and press down firmly on the right edge of the card to secure it. You should be able to feel it snap in.

And one not-so obvious item, the RTC/PRAM battery, might be gumming up the works. To fix this, you'll need to pull the battery from its plastic sheath at the bottom-right-hand corner of the exposed computer assembly, and then pull the tiny plug on the battery from the logic assembly. Connect a new battery to the logic assembly, and then reinsert it in the sheath.

If this still fails, there is a possibility that a board was stressed or cracked during your upgrade. The above steps should rule that out.

Re:Pismo won't turn on with new harddrive installe - 2008/03/17 05:23 Dear cindel,
After having confirmed the check ,as suggested by swordbreaker55,it may be worth your while to check the following:
Dear macnut944,
I have five "dead" prismo as "throw out from a school here and everyone of them had the same symptoms as yours.
The answer to your problem is the PRAM battery, everytime (mostly).
To fix this problem access the PRAM battery(remove K/B first )unplug the small connector of the PRAM battery then lay the K/B back into place and press the start button (with P/supply in place and on).
Sit back and watch your prismo boot as it should and then after booting is complete lay open the K/B and reconnect PRAM lead and "recharging" commences ,or so it has for me (five times in a row).
As the odds of this being a fluke are unlikely then this seems to be the answer.
Please give it a go and tell us your results as I'm sure your prismo will fire up,as I said (above)it worked for five machines in succession and that could not be an entire fluke (coincidence).
Not sure what the explanation is but for no outlay I have returned five "dead" prismo's back to productive life.
Regards
mick
