Can I update my USB ports on my Mac G4 Powerbook? - 2007/09/15 17:33I just got the new iPhone & have since had to do several upgrades on my Mac G4 lappy (upgrade iTunes...upgrade to OS 10.4...clean up my hard drive so I could update to 10.4.10 so that the upgraded iTunes would run) only to realize that my Mac has two 1.1 USB ports and the iPhone needs a 2.0 USB. Is there a way to update my USB ports?? Thanks!

Re:Can I update my USB ports on my Mac G4 Powerboo - 2007/09/15 22:33There's no way to upgrade the USB to 2.0 but you can add a USB 2.0 PC card like this.

Re:Can I update my USB ports on my Mac G4 Powerboo - 2007/09/16 11:03Great! Thanks! I'm guessing that the card slot that it refers to is the one located on the left side of my computer - that I never knew existed until now. Thanks so much!

Re:Can I update my USB ports on my Mac G4 Powerboo - 2007/09/16 13:02Yup, that littel slot on the upper left side is the PCMCIA slot, also called the PC Card slot. (about the size of a thick credit card) Most people with later model Powerbooks have everything built-in so it rarely gets used these days. The slot was used for stuff like wifi, USB & firewire cards in the older laptops that didn't have those built in.
Fortunately the card slot is still there for stuff like the USB 2.0 hardware you need.
