Re:Lombard Asking for User Name & Password - 2007/07/13 17:51 Wow! Do not know what I would do without the kind of help available on this forum. Thank you one and all.

As it turns out, on the first try I was not able to boot into the single user "whatever" so I tried to do the PRAM reset. That did not work either on the first try but on the second try, I was able to get three "characteristic" bongs that indicated that the PRAM had been reset.

Well, I still came up with the same problem I have been having all along; however, I decided to try and do the "C" restart with the installation disk inserted. What do you know, it did boot into the installation disk. Apparently, the PRAM reset was what I needed to get the computer to recognize the installation CD. I then went to installer and erased my hard drive. With that done, I was able to begin a new installation of OS 10.2.
Right now it is in the process of installing. It takes a while on a system that runs on 333MH but I am encouraged.

Again, thank you for your help.

Re:Lombard Asking for User Name & Password - 2007/07/14 00:59 Glad to hear it finally started doing something it's supposed to do.

It's kinda second nature to me to blast the PRAM whenever my Mac is acting up and doesn't want to boot.

That's the first thing a Mac user should know but are usually never told until there's a problem. And I always forget to mention the basic things like that.

Thank Cacicedo.... he's the man with the answers.....

You would fumble through it and make the same mistakes most of us have made in the past and learn from it ;-)

It's amazing what a bunch of strangers with a common passion....or "hobby" can do to help someone. This is the best Mac forum I have ever had the pleasure to participate in and I have learned a lot here and hopefully I've helped some people along the way and keep them from learning the hard way like I usually do.

We have a great bunch of Mac people who share their experience and knowledge for no other reason than to help. Maybe we get a warm fuzzy feeling now and then ;-)

And not to forget Brock Kyle who keeps best Mac web site on the going.
