Lombard G3 Wifi PC Card update - 2007/06/10 22:10Update on the Lombard G3 Powerbook I was having problems with the wifi card made by Netgear. I found out the problem was with the version of OS X (Jauguar) I was using and fixed it by installing 10.3 Panther. But I found a much better solution to the Netgear PC card and buying the $15.00 Orangeware driver for the card.
I am now using a Belkin F5D7010 802.11G wifi card and it works natively in OS 10.4 using Apple's Airport software. I just put the PC card in and it was immediately recognized by the G3 as an Airport card. I don't know what other versions of OS X the card works in but I would guess it will work in at least 10.3 and probably 10.2 also.
And I found the card on eBay new for $22.00 shipped.
This card should work in any of the G3 Powerbooks running OS X but your millage may vary.

Re:Lombard G3 Wifi PC Card update - 2007/06/11 08:10I have that same Belkin Card that I use in a PC Laptop, do you think it will plug in a airport adapter card for a G3 iMac 400 DV SE, if it will it will I'll get an adapter and try it out using 10.2.8.

Re:Lombard G3 Wifi PC Card update - 2007/06/22 08:38Nope, need 10.3 to run the Belkin card. Belkin drivers are 10.3 specific. but the card does fit the airport adapter and a little modification to the rails in the iMac 400 dv and running 10.3 worked just fine. Range is a little short without the antenna attached.

The Belkin drivers are for 10.3 but it also works with Airport software so it may work in all versions of OS X as an Airport Extreme card.
You may be able to take the plastic antenna off and attach the Airport antenna but I wouldn't try unless you have an extra card lying around. I have seen some PC wifi cards with the plastic removed and an antenna attached and used in iBooks.
How much range are you getting ?

Re:Lombard G3 Wifi PC Card update - 2007/06/22 12:32I may try the airport software in 10.2 to see if that works, but as far as taking the antenna off and attaching the airport antenna I'll fargo that, I still use this card in a laptop.
I may just buy a used on on ebay and try at a later date, this was just an experiment to see if the card would fit in an airport adapter and the iMac see it, which it did under 10.3 and was useable in the same room. So this was a success.
Thanks for the info which got me to try.
