Re:RAM memory PowerBook G4 - 2007/06/13 11:05
I agree, memory is VERY touchy, especially in a PB. I have a 1.25g PB and had the logic board replaced 3 times due to bad RAM causing it to burn out.
What's interesting here is that AppleCare told me that Samsung manufactured the RAM for them and that any Samsung RAM would work, and so far (for me) it has for just over 2 years now.
Have you opened it back up and made "absolutely" sure that both cards are "completely" set in their slots? I had to do that the first time and found that they looked and felt like they were in all the way, but after taking them out and putting them back in, they registered fine. Perhaps moving the card from the "good" slot to the "bad" slot, and vice-versa will shed light on it.
If this does not work the problem out, you should run Apple Hardware Test and be sure that one of the RAM sockets hasn't burned out -- you can also have a genius from an Apple Store do this for you.
There was a recall on certain PB models because of this problem (mine was not incuded) but perhaps yours was. Go to Apple.com/support or call them with your model number to check.
If the slot is bad, hopefully you have Apple Care still in force, as you may have to replace your logic board.
Best of luck, Brian
