mac mail won't launch - 2007/06/13 16:27 OSX 10.2.8 on a G3 wallstreet.

everything was (or seemed!) fine when i shut down one night. the next morning when i launched mail it said it was opening for the first time and i needed to create an account. i created the account and now when i try and launch it hangs then quits. the window opens, with the mailboxes tab but none of the mail ever appears. i can see all my sub mailboxes

i did NOT create the account with a new user name, i'm thinking now maybe i should have?

i did run the disk utility from the startup disk. the disk appeared to be ok, but it fized a number of disk permissions. i also searched help and looked in some books for some instruction on which file to repair, etc., but could fine nothing.

if it matters, i also noticed that at the same time, firefox relaunched with a history of only the current day; and some of the soterd passwords were missing.

obviously, i won't die if i can't get my mail archives, but it's pretty important that i do if it is at all possible. i thought about reinstalling mail, but didn't want to overwrite what was already saved in preferences--or wherever.

thanks,

michelle
