Wifi card freezes Lombard G3 - 2007/05/29 14:47 OK, I get to ask a question for a change...

I have this Lombard G3 400MHz running Jaguar here. When I put my Netgear WG511T wifi card in the slot it goes to that nasty screen with the foreign languages and I have to reboot. If I try booting with the card it stops the boot process and I get the grey screen with the white vertical lines that reminds me of trying to get OS X loaded on a Beige G3.

I have the correct drivers (Orangeware) and the card works fine on my other Lombard but not this one. The same model card worked fine in my 333MHz Lombard also.

Before you say the card slot is bad, I can use a Firewire card in it and it works. I have put a network card and 2 different modem cards in the PCMCIA slot with no problems. No freezes or funky behavior.

So..what's the problem ? It has me baffled.

Anyone had any similar experiences ?

TIA

Re:Wifi card freezes Lombard G3 - 2007/05/29 21:09 An update.....

I have another PCMCIA wifi card (No Mac drivers) but I stuck it in the PCMCIA slot and it does not freeze the Powerbook like the Netgear.

I know the Netgear card is not bad because I've tried two identical Netgear cards with the same results.

Anybody ever had one PC card cause problems while other cards work fine ? This has me baffled.....

Re:Wifi card freezes Lombard G3 - 2007/05/29 21:40 Sounds like computer voodoo's at work. I don't have any ideas at all. Sorry.

Re:Wifi card freezes Lombard G3 - 2007/05/29 22:30 Maybe it is a software problem? If two cards of the same type don't work on the Lombard 400 but they both work on the Lombard 333, maybe there is something wrong with the driver installation on the Lombard 400. Did you already try reinstalling the driver? - Mike

Re:Wifi card freezes Lombard G3 - 2007/05/30 13:13 Ok, I figured it out. Apparently OS 10.2 is the problem. The only difference between the 3 Lombards other than CPU speed was this one had Jaguar installed.

I put OS 10.3 on the Lombard and now it works !

What gets me is OS 10.2 is supposed to be supported by the Orangeware driver but that seemed to be the problem.
