Re:Ibook G3 700MHz - 2007/02/04 16:02um, that depends on what your definition of good is. Personally i wouldn't buy it. And it's way to slow for video editing, as for internet it's good, and that is a really good price. hope that helps :)

Re:Ibook G3 700MHz - 2007/02/04 17:57The iBook (Dual USB) should be OK for the basics, but don't expect miracles of a computer with only 16 MB VRAM if you're thinking of editing video. And, since the G3 doesn't have a vector unit like the G4 does, you won't get to play with much in the way of editing software if any such software runs at all.
Better deal for what you want to do would be a PBG4/867 or 1.0. A bit pricier, yes, but well worth saving those 250 clams toward it.

Re:Ibook G3 700MHz - 2007/02/06 21:18And even that would kind of suck, in my experience with computers it's best to buy a relatively new one. i just turned 18 so u could argue i don't have a lot of experience, but i have owned quite a few computers in my short life time. and 5/7 were brand new. one was somewhat new. and the powerbook i own right now is ancient. it works great but with how much i spent on upgrades i could've bought a new macbook. i would find something relatively newer. but that's just me. Also like the dude before me pointed out, 16 mb isn't that great. it's ok, but you said u wanted to do video editing. iTunes cover flow can barely function off of 16, and on some resolutions it crashes so i would recommend a better computer. i hope that helps. i'm not trying to sound rude i just think a better computer would be...well...better. have a nice day

That's a good price but as everyone mentioned it's not the best machine for what you want to do. It would make a nice surfing laptop bit lack in power for video.
Personally I would spend the money on a good used G4 tower and you could get it to do the job much better. Older G4 towers are getting cheaper and still very good machines.

Re:Ibook G3 700MHz - 2007/02/08 00:27Weston,
Give yourself time, young Padawan. You may already have learned far more in your short life than we could have learned when we were 18.
And you have much to learn yet. The newest isn't always the best, and it may break the bank for some in far worse ways than what you describe. You have entered a domain where many of your peers are very passionate about their machines in the truest sense of the word "passion"; they often pay a lot of money to squeeze every last bit of useful life out of their Macs. And this is good, because it keeps these older computers from ending up as waste.
As I see it, you will not find anyone in the world who can operate as fast as a computer can. But the industry wants your money badly enough that it resorts to phasing out things that once were adequate. Evil? Sure, but without planned obsolescence, I'd be out of work as a refurbisher.
