Problems with G4 iBook - 2006/05/30 12:23 Hi there all...
>>>Love the new look<<<
Any ways,
I have a G4 iBook, and had been having trouble mounting flash drives, SD picture cards from my camera ect.....
so i pop in the tech tool pro cd, and run a full systems test.
it tells me that there are errors on my volume structure - and if i wnat to repair it..... i click repair............. after a LONG while.....
it finishes and restarts...... or atleast tries too. after the grey apple logo appears it crashes with a dim screen and says to press the power button to restart.... we do this 5-6 times, before i give up and just reformat the HD....(zero out all data in disk utility) .... and reinstall the OS..... 10.3 then upgrade it to 10.4 (Upgrade CD)
I am still having the Mounting issues with any drive...CD, DVD, HD, Flash.......ect. sometimes the drive will freeze tyhe computer until i pull it out........ and it is running REALLY slow!!!!!!! Another thing, it will restart when ever it wants too!!!!!!! it can be on for 10 minutes or an hour, and out of the blue...... it just restarts!!!!!!!!!! HELP ME!!!!!!
thanks
Jarrod

Re:Problems with G4 iBook - 2006/05/30 12:54 I'd try using DiskWarrior before you give up on this installation. I trust DW to do what TTP can't.

Re:Problems with G4 iBook - 2006/06/01 16:31 I'm surprised it takes that long to have something returned. In my experience it's been no more than four days from the time I send it in to the time it gets back in my hands. Strange.

About something else you could do . . . other than erasing the HD and reinstalling the system, I don't think so. If you take the nuke-and-pave approach, make sure that you back up your documents, cause erasing the drive will destroy them.

Finally, although I'm not a shill for Alsoft, which makes DiskWarrior, I can tell you that it's an essential piece of software. I know it's painful to pay money for it, believe me.

Re:Problems with G4 iBook - 2006/06/02 06:37 The fact that it restarts on its own for no apparent reason suggests that your problem is defective hardware and cannot be solved by DiskWarrior or any other program like that.

Also, the fact that you have reinstalled the OS virtually rules out the possibility that disk corruption is the cause of your problem. A hardware failure can obviously cause your hard drive to become corrupt.
