I just tried to upgrade my iMac DV SE (G3/400 Mhz, nov. 1999) with two 512MB RAM modules (168 pin, PC133) but it doesn't work.
With both of them, I get an odd chime at boot with a black screen.
With only one of them, and the original 128MB module in the other slot, I can boot normally, but I have only 128MB recognized, the other slot is marked "empty" on System Info.

Yet, according to this:
http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/stats/imac_se_dv_400.html
... there should be no problem.

A quick search into this forum's archives revealed a possible firmware problem, but I believe mine is up to date, it is the 4.1.9f1

Please tell me what i've done wrong.

Older G3 machines are very, very touchy when it comes to memory and will not boot from cheaper, high density PC compatible memory. MUST BE low density Apple compatible RAM.

OWC, a site sponsor, are the best for Mac memory. Here is what you need:-

I guess I have no choice but to sell them on eBay and turn to Apple certified modules, maybe like these: http://www.macway.com/fr/product/701/memoire-512-mo-sdram-pc-133-pm-g4-agp-imac-2-g3-350-et- emaclt125ghz.html
