Re:processor - 2009/06/29 13:13 With the G4 iMac you are very limited on upgrades. I think somebody did make CPU upgrades at one time but I'm sure they are no longer being sold new. You may find one on the used market like eBay but it will be expensive.

You are usually much better off getting a newer faster Mac than buying a CPU upgrade on any Mac.

What CPU is in your iMac ?

For wifi you have three options. Slow Airport card "b" Faster USB "g" or "n" speed wifi adapters or an ethernet wifi bridge. For networking your wifi speed is dependent on the speed of your wireless router so don't get more than you can use. If your router is a "g" speed it would be a waste of money to get an "n" adapter.

Check out OWC (see ad on this page) for some options for Mac compatible wifi.

Re:processor - 2009/06/30 22:35 You could still run Leopard on the 700MHz G4 with the help of LeopardAssist but you don't really want to. It would be slower than Tiger on that Mac. You should max the RAM out and add a faster 7200rpm drive (if it doesn't have one) Look for a drive with at least 8MB cache and it will help speed it up a little.

If you really like that style of iMac you could sell that one and get one of the faster models. Less cost than a CPU upgrade - if you could find one.

The 1.25GHz G4 iMacs are still pretty quick running Leopard with the RAM maxxed out at 2GB. And the 20" 1.25GHz G4 iMac is a sweet Mac. If you can find one and don't mind paying $300-400, or more for one. It would have faster bus, RAM and better video as well as a much faster CPU.
