Re:G3 iMac - 2008/07/15 17:00 Don't even try doing the OS X thing until such time as you have checked the firmware is right up to date. As Krowmagnum has advised all sorts of problems otherwise.

When OS X first came out and installs were tried on all sorts of G4 and G4 machines, iot was b elieved the logic boards fried, however only video cards generally.

Re:G3 iMac - 2008/07/15 19:39 You will have to get OS 9 on it first or make sure your iMac has Firmware update 4.1.9 installed. You may be able to boot into Open Firmware to see what version it is but I do not know for sure that it will list the version. It's worth a try.

To boot into OF just press the start button and hold down the Command+Option+O+F keys until you get the gray OF screen.

If it is not 4.1.9 you MUST install OS 9 to get the firmware update installed before installing OS X on that model of iMac.

Re:G3 iMac - 2008/07/16 06:57 When you get it up and running, check out the WamCom browser, which is a Mozilla derivative for OS9. I also have a G3 DV, and that software is much faster on my machine than either IE5 or iCab, and has made OS9 enjoyable as opposed to just usable.
