Re:Video Card Questions G5 1Gen 1.6 ghz - 2009/09/17 07:30 If you want to upgrade the video there are few choices. I think the Radeon 9800 is the only one still being sold. There are others that can be found used.

Adding a second card is an easy option and the Mac OS will let you landscape the desktops as one big wide desktop. Your only new, and best option for that is the 128MB ATI Radeon 9200 PCI card. There are some earlier 32MB ATI PCI cards with DVI but you'll have to find one in the 2nd hand market. Careful buying Mac PCI video cards as many on eBay were originally PC cards flashed with a Mac "ROM" to work in a Mac. All features do not always work 100% on flashed cards. (the DVI Port may not function correctly)

You should have the GeForce FX 5200 Ultra video card in your G5 and that supports dual monitors but you'll need the ADC-DVI adapter. Belkin makes one and OWC sells those as well.

So it depends on how much you want to spend and if you want the video upgraded or just the ability to use 2 DVI monitors. Upgrading video cards in a Mac can get expensive quick. Make sure you really want or need an upgrade.
