tv/video cards - 2007/03/17 11:14i got the tv tuner and video cards for 10 bucks delivered, and when i put them in my 6500 (os9.1), there seems to be no change. i assumed since these are specific add-on cards they'd be plug and play, but my machine doesn't seem to have detected them. nothing shows up in system profiler, and i can find nothing in the apple menu items or icons on the desktop for them.
where am i going wrong?

Re:tv/video cards - 2007/03/17 17:23Like the graphics card you do need to install the software from either the CD if you got one, or do a Google search of the brand of the cards and look for downloads.

Re:tv/video cards - 2007/03/17 18:50The Phillips tuner uses Apple Video Player app and the A/V cards usually came with Avid 3.0 video software.
AVP can be downloaded from Apple's archive files if not installed already.
Avid 3.0 can be found free or cheap on the CD's that came bundled with the Performa Macs.

Re:tv/video cards - 2007/03/17 22:28I'm trying to think of what Apple names the software. With the 8600 if an USB Card was installed the necessary software was downloaded from Apple. Then there's the necessary firmware for the applications that could be run, i.e iTunes.

Forgot to mention Apple Video Player can be found on some OS install CD's also. Also, I think the TV tuner will only work on the internal on-board video. If you add a video card you cannot watch TV with the PCI video.
I don't think the cards you added will show up in Apple System Profiler so I wouldn't worry about it not being there.

Re:tv/video cards - 2007/03/21 11:14thanks for the comments. tv is now working, though for some reason no audio from the cpu speaker. external speakers were also silent until i switched from the speaker socket to the microphone socket. totally weird, but whatever works, i guess. . . .
