What kind of monitor are you using ? I've had different results with a variety of monitors. Both CRT and LCD's.

But I agree with you that Apple seems to have changed their aesthetics:functionality ratio from what it used to be. In the old Apple days the form was always important but came second only after function. Form has increasingly taken a more important role in the design of Mac hardware and software.

It could be worse... Have you seen Vista ? The look got somewhat better but the OS got worse.
