file transfer - 2009/05/04 11:00I bought a Mac Mini last fall and found that my files created by Appleworks 5.0 and earlier can't be read, so that I can't add to them or print them, which I need to do. Is there any way of translating them without hooking up my old 8.6 OS computer to my new one? I don't have the room to do that.

Re:file transfer - 2009/05/04 18:42If you can get the documents to a pre-Intel Mac that has AppleWorks on it, you can open them in AW and then save them in Word format. If you don't have MS Office, then you can download NeoOffice, which is freeware, and that will open the MS Office format.

Re:file transfer - 2009/05/04 19:44Thanks, but I'm not terribly computer savvy. Do you mean if I download Neoffice on my Mac Mini, that that will translate the files?

Re:file transfer - 2009/05/06 01:06You would need to re-open the files on your OS 8.6 Mac and re-save as Word documents. Then your Mini can open the Word files with the free Neo Office.

Re:file transfer - 2009/05/06 21:13The last version of AppleWorks does run on OS X. Will it run on a MacIntel? That I don't know. Of course, the last version is 6.2.9, so if you don't have that version you'd have to go back to OS 8 or 9 to run version 5.

Re:file transfer - 2009/07/04 21:16Sorry to take so long in replying, but I have physical problems and live alone so I don't always get things done as soon as I'd like. Anyhow, I saved the files in the old Mac to Word Perfect Mac 3.0-3.5 (there was no "Word" ) and then downloaded Neo Office and still couldn't get in. A window stating "Script Editor cannot open files in the "Script Editor Document" format. That makes no sense to me. ???????
