Buying an older mac mini/ price and stuff. - 2008/11/07 12:24 OK. Here's the deal I have a mac mini and my father has decided to get one after an old imac broke down.

He has a flat screen monitor and apple keyboard already, just need the mac mini.
I have no idea what they are going for now in the used market or refurb market, I got mine( A 1.42 model) as a refurb from the Apple store a few years back. I also know very little about the later models as there were only two kinds when I bought mine. I bought mine and stopped looking...I vaguely knew there was now an intel model and that's about it.

If anyone could give me some tips about shopping for another one, it would be appreciated. Price and good places to buy one.

So far I've shopped on ebay and it looks like he might get the same model as me. We know what to expect from this model and I assume it's going to be fairly cheap by now as there are many other models now.

My father doesn't want to spend too much money on it. Course he already bought a flat screen monitor that costs way more then my freebie monitor that I use...*chuckles*.

Re:Buying an older mac mini/ price and stuff. - 2008/11/07 13:26 The prices for Mini's are holding up pretty well. You should check Mac2sell.net as a value guide but look at completed eBay auctions too.

I wouldn't pay much extra for anything called a "refurb". That usually means very little.

Going with the 1.42Ghz like yours is a good choice. The 1.2 will not be much less $$.

As far as buying one I can't recommend any resellers from personal experience. But ebay and LEMSwap (LowEndMac's swaplist on google) would be my first two choices. You can join the swaplist and post a wanted ad and see what people have lying around. I've had good luck on both LEMSwap and eBay, you just have to be a little more careful on eBay. LEMSwap members are generally long time Mac users and probably less of a risk.
