Transfer of files - 2007/09/09 16:01 Hi

Second time of writing as the site failed to respond and lost safari lost my last post so if this does come though twice apologies. This is abit more blunt post as well :-)

I have a new Itel imac and an old G4. I store a large amount of stuff on the G4 as i am writing an illustration intense book.

Specs

Intel 10.4.10
G4 10.3.9

I was told by the salesman at apple that a firewire cable was all I needed for the two macs to pass files to each other or a networking or cross over cable. The new mac would have no problem accessing the old ones desk top.

I am using a Belkin 400 fire wire cable into the fire wire 400 ports and despite the G4 showing the fire wire icon on start up after a very long delay the imac says cannot connect.

On the networking side I can see the name of the G$ with a netwok icon on my desktop but cannot access it as I do not have the right permissions per the error message.

If I try to go in via the GO tab it asks for a password which is different to the one used to unlock the machine.

Can someone assist as I have tried the sequence on the apple support site to no avail.

Cheers and thanks in advance

Steve
