why source links disappear/how to fix? - 2009/06/16 16:13 I store mp3 libraries on my PC, copy songs into iTunes, and sometimes move the original source files to different locations on my computer. The result is that the songs remain on the iPod, but the listing in iTunes shows a broken link - ITunes can't find the source file. I am really surprised that iTunes can't "follow" the files to their new home on the PC... I'd like to understand why this happens, especially since iPod has its own copy of the file in an iPod location anyway....

MORE important, isn't there any better way to fix than to click on EACH song individually and then navigate to the file? Surprised iPod won't let you multi-select all broken link songs from the same album, navigate to the windows folder where the whole album resides, and then auto match the 10 songs to the 10 files in the folder....

I find it odd that the links break in the first place, and odder still that it is such a huge manual effort to fix those links. What's up with that?

Re:why source links disappear/how to fix? - 2009/06/16 20:31 If you are moving them to another drive and will do the same it the future then change the location of the music where you want and it will stay there and keep the files there! You can change the location of the MP3's you are storing on your PC under the advanced tab in the preference window, but iTunes will want you to keep all the files together at this location!
