Which graphics card for Mac Pro? - 2008/08/25 23:07 I have an Intel 2.66 Mac Pro and the graphics card is not working (that's what it looks like).
Which card should I get for it?
I went to Best Buy but nobody knows anything about macs,
I'd looked at the specs and it comes with a GeForce 7300 GT 256MB,
Best Buy has a GeForce 7300 GS but I don't know if it works.
Do you know where can I find one of those cards or perhaps an upgrade not very expensive?

Re:Which graphics card for Mac Pro? - 2008/08/26 16:02 Before you buy anything for the Mac Pro I would take it to an Apple store and let someone at the Genius bar look at it. They will check it out for free, just make an appointment first.

What makes you think the video card is bad ?

If it is bad you must get a Mac compatible card. Off the shelf stuff at best buy or other places will not work. First I would complain to Apple and ask them to replace the card for free. Unfortunately there are not any "not very expensive" Mac video cards. Anything with a Mac ROM to work in a Mac will cost more than the exact same card for a PC.

This looks like a nice replacement and the price isn't too bad:

If you can get by with the 7300GS you can probably find them on eBay pretty cheap from people upgrading their Pro's.

I would try Apple first though. You may be surprised.

Fortunately, I opened the machine and cleaned it up after taking off the card and reinstalling, it works!!! go figure.
I believe for it'll be fine for now, if not I'll take your advice and take it to an apple store, it's about 80 miles away thou.

Re:Which graphics card for Mac Pro? - 2008/08/27 12:37 Sometimes connections get a little loose or even corroded if you have a lot of humidity so that was a good idea. You never know about computers and what makes things like that happen.

Glad to hear it's working again.
