Discussion Q&A - Possible Eight Core Mac Pro? - 2007/03/25 16:35 With Adobe scheduled to unveil the Intel-native version of Photoshop CS3 on March 27th, it would be logical for Apple to announce an "eight core" Mac Pro either simultaneously or soon thereafter.

Do you think the extremely easy-to-upgrade Mac Pro is as close to perfect as one could expect from a tower case or do you think it could be improved further? Beyond additional speed, would you like to see more drive bays, expansion slots, or other features added to the series? Do you think there is a market for a smaller Mac Pro "minitower" or "cube" with reduced expansion but a lower price? Why or why not?

Re:Discussion Q&A - Possible Eight Core Mac Pro? - 2007/03/25 17:47 I think there's definitely room for a "prosumer" between an Mac Mini and a MacPro. I like the iMac a lot, but an all-in-one binds you to a monitor and that's not everyone's cup o'tea; and the Mac Mini is strictly an entry level computer.

If there is a octocore MacPro, maybe that would bring the pice of the quads down so they could take up that in-between place. I doubt it, but you never know.

Re:Discussion Q&A - Possible Eight Core Mac Pro? - 2007/03/25 23:53 The MacPro is a great design, but I prefer having the motherboard fold out like the G4 towers. It's easier to get to the PCI slots and memory.

Re:Discussion Q&A - Possible Eight Core Mac Pro? - 2007/03/26 00:28 yeah i think there is a space for people who want to upgrade the graphics and maybe have 2 hds who dont need all the expansion of the mac pro. something 3x-4x the size of the mini with 2 bays and 2 pci slots would be cool.

Re:Discussion Q&A - Possible Eight Core Mac Pro? - 2007/03/26 14:41 I'm happy with the Mac Pro design. It's easy to upgrade. More bays and more slots are always good, but I don't think Apple is going to do it. They usually keep a case around for a while. - Mike
