EveryMac.com Forums - Recommendations & Rules
It is the wish of EveryMac.com to allow conversations to develop with
limited interference and censorship. However, EveryMac.com will not
hesitate to censor or punish users when it is necessary. In general,
please be respectful of the forums themselves, respecful of one another,
and mindful of laws. Keep it clean and have fun!
Recommendations:
Prior to posting a message, please do the following:
1. Check EveryMac.com to see if
your question is already answered on the site. In particular,
a large number of questions are answered in the Q&As.
Please also check the specifications page,
ports, and support links pages for the model of interest.
2. Search the main
EveryMac.com website to
double check that your answer isn't lurking elsewhere on the site.
3. Search
the forums to make sure
that your question hasn't already been posted and answered before.
When you post a message, please do the following:
1. Refer to the rules below to make sure your message is
acceptable.
2. Post your message in the correct and appropriate forum. The
forums are clearly marked
based on system type. To purchase, sell, or trade a Mac or related
products, please only use the
"Wanted
to Buy,
For Sale, & Trade" forum. EveryMac.com will delete messages
posted in the wrong forum.
3. Use a descriptive subject. This will make it more likely for
people to read your
message and be able to provide a useful reply. For example, "Help Needed"
is a poor subject
choice. "Display Problem with iMac G3/350" is better.
Please refrain from
using "Urgent", "ASAP", or other such words and under no circumstances,
use all capital letters.
4. Provide details about your computer, its configuration, and the
operating system(s) installed. For example,
"PowerBook G4" is not suitably detailed. A "PowerBook G4/1.25 15-Inch,
stock except for 2.0 GB of RAM, running MacOS X 10.4.4"
is much better. For the iPod, please post details about both the iPod and
your computer.
5. Although it is not required, it is appreciated and often helpful to
link to the relevant specifications page on
EveryMac.com. For example, to make "Power Mac G5/2.7 DP"
a link to the specifications page on EveryMac.com, you can do the
following:
Power Mac G5/2.7 DP
This will appear in the post simply as Power
Mac G5/2.7 DP
6. Stay on topic. Make sure that initial posts are related to the
website and the appropriate forum. Make sure that
replies address the original posting.
7. Don't "cross post". Posting the same message in more than one
forum is unnecessary and inappropriate. Users who
violate this rule will be banned from using the site.
8. Don't post short "me too" or "LOL" responses in an effort to
increase your "post count". Before posting a message, please be sure
that it contributes meaningfully to the conversation.
Rules:
Please observe the following rules:
1. Do not post advertisements. The EveryMac.com Forums are designed for
individuals to discuss Macintosh, iPod, and related hardware.
To purchase, sell, or trade a Mac or related products, individuals may use
the "Wanted
to Buy,
For Sale, & Trade" forum. Commercial entities, or individuals
interested in selling a significant number of products
need to contact EveryMac.com before attempting to post.
Please note that advertising consists of, but is not limited to:
- Posting links to commercial websites not related to another user's
question.
- Soliciting readers to visit any website or forums without prior
approval.
- Soliciting donations for any organization or charity, no matter how
worthy.
- Soliciting participation in "free/cheap" Mac or iPod "referral
schemes".
2. Do not "flame" others or post "flamebait/trolls". Please be respectful
of one another. Differences in opinion are to be expected, but personally
attacking
another user because one cannot think of a meaningful counterpoint is
inappropriate and will not be tolerated. Likewise,
posts designed to irritate or upset other users will be deleted. Users
who "flame" or "troll" will be banned.
3. Do not use profanity or racist, sexist, or otherwise hateful remarks.
EveryMac.com is visited by readers of all ages and
use of profanity or links to websites with profanity, racist, sexist,
hateful, adults-only content, or pornography will not be
tolerated.
4. Do not discuss or link to "warez" or "crackz" sites. Posting links to
sites with information on violating copy protection or
serial numbers, or making requests for serial numbers will not be
tolerated.
5. Do not use "sock puppets". Signing up multiple times in an effort to
"gang up" on another user or attempt to increase
one's odds in a members-only contest will not be tolerated. Users who
intentionally sign up multiple times will be deleted.
Users who violate any of these rules or those listed in the Terms of
Use will be suspended or banned from using the site. EveryMac.com
reserves the right to
suspend or ban users for any other activity deemed to be abusive to the
site or its members. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
